We the People State Competition


On Saturday, December 17, twenty-eight Helfrich Park STEM Academy eighth grade students competed in the Indiana state We The People competition at IUPUI in Indianapolis. Twelve schools representing eleven Indiana districts, each with six individual unit teams consisting of four to five students, gave prepared statements concerning various Constitutional principles, current events, and Supreme Court cases. Once the prepared statement portion was completed, teams were asked to debate issues with judges in addition to answering questions in an interview format. The Unit Four team from Helfrich Park earned a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP for their unit.  Overall, the PUMAS placed 6th as a team. The students were coached by Mrs. Amanda Antey. The competition is sponsored by the Indiana Bar Association.


All of the students participating represented Helfrich Park and the West Side tremendously- way to go PUMAS!
