Service Learning at Glenwood Leadership Academy

Who are we?
Glenwood Leadership Academy Bullpups, home to 300+ inner city students, trained service learning teachers and administrators, who are focused on combining academics and youth voice into meaningful service.

What do we do?
Solve community problems by engaging our students in hands on learning, leadership opportunities, and by collaborating with our community partners

How do we do it?
We offer our staff professional development with service-learning workshops. We have a counselor dedicated to overseeing our service-learning projects.  We fund mini-grants for teachers and students to join forces with a community agency and work together to meet a need.

Why do we do this?
Research shows that service learning:
-helps students acquire academic skills and knowledge
-engages students and motivates them to learn
-correlates with increased attendance
-provides a mutual respect between teachers and students
-improves the overall school climate

"Everybody can be great because everybody can serve."
